THE EL SEPTA @ WORK MARKET STREET ELEVATED RECONSTRUCTION
LOCATION: PHILADELPHIA, PA
Synterra, Ltd. was responsible for a significant portion of the construction management for the $370 million Market Street Elevated Reconstruction Project. This reconstruction has dramatically changed the look of West Philadelphia. It included replacing 11,000 ft of El support structure, renovating six stations, constructing two new substations, and other related improvements. As part of the Program Management Team, Synterra Ltd. was responsible for overseeing the local stakeholders, community, and business needs as well as mitigating the concerns from the residents resulting from this project’s impact on the community during construction. Our involvement in the affirmative action coordination; ensured that community residents and local contractors were given the opportunity to participate in the large amount of construction work resulting from this project. Synterra Ltd. also facilitated the coordination of an apprenticeship program for community residents.
This reconstruction project has improved traffic flow, increased handicap access into the elevated stations, improved the pedestrian experience, and the look of Market Street resulting in a more residential and consumer friendly aesthetically pleasing community.
